The Dagger Falls Docks occupy a narrow stretch of the River Tesh beneath the towering stone walls of the settlement, where several weathered wooden piers extend into the dark, swiftly flowing waters. Though modest compared to the bustling riverports of larger cities, the docks serve as an important center of trade, receiving shallow-draft barges and small riverboats carrying grain, timber, livestock, furs, and other goods from settlements along the river. Heavy wooden cranes, stacks of cargo crates, coiled ropes, and barrels crowd the muddy waterfront, while dockworkers labor from dawn until dusk unloading shipments and preparing vessels for departure.
The constant creaking of timber, splashing of water, and shouted instructions of laborers mingle with the distant roar of the falls that give Dagger Falls its name. A handful of stone warehouses and timber storage sheds stand near the waterfront, their doors secured with heavy iron locks against thieves and smugglers. Since the Zhentarim seized control of the settlement, armed soldiers have maintained a watchful presence along the docks, inspecting cargo, questioning merchants, and collecting burdensome tariffs on goods entering or leaving the town. Despite these restrictions, the waterfront remains a lively gathering place for merchants, fishermen, laborers, and travelers, where news from distant settlements often arrives aboard the riverboats. Beneath the ordinary bustle of commerce, however, whispered rumors persist of contraband shipments, missing cargo, and certain dockworkers who quietly assist those opposed to Zhentarim rule.
